Collision Safety System with Active Braking
Found on all of our new Freightliner Cascadia tractors, this technology is a forward-looking, radar-based adaptive cruise control system with active braking for commercial vehicles in North America. Active braking improves vehicle safety by automatically using the vehicle foundation brakes to alert the driver and decelerate the vehicle when a pre-set vehicle following distance is compromised. The driver is still the most important element in maintaining vehicle safety. However, the system can provide the additional split second deceleration needed to maintain control of the vehicle in an emergency situation.
Roll Stability Control (RSC) Technology
RSC systems can be found on all of our tractors since 2004. RSC systems are active systems that automatically intervene if a high rollover risk is detected due to excessive speed in a curve. In an imminent rollover situation, the system intervenes by automatically reducing the throttle and applying the engine and foundation brakes without action by the driver..
Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems
The objective of tire pressure monitoring systems is to improve commercial motor vehicle safety by assisting drivers and fleet managers in efficiently monitoring proper tire pressure. By automatically measuring and indicating air pressure information to fleet operators and drivers, tire pressure monitoring systems can be valuable aids for proper tire maintenance that will enhance the safe operation of commercial motor vehicles.
Lane Departure Warning (LDW)
LDW Systems can be found on 2008 and older tractors. The LDW system is designed to help warn drivers when they drift from their lane unintentionally. It has also been found to help drivers recognize the onset of fatigue and as an aid in warning drivers when they drift due to distraction. The LDW system can detect when a vehicle begins to drift toward an unintended lane change. When this occurs, the unit automatically emits a distinctive "rumble strip" sound, alerting the driver to make a correction. We are currently testing LDW systems on select 2009 and 2010 tractors.
MPRI Driver Training Simulators
We have three driver training simulators which use high resolution projection imaging to create life-like training scenarios that improve driving behavior and skill. Trainers select from a variety of visual environments, training scenarios and special effects including extreme weather conditions. Audio and vibration systems add accurate driving noise and feel. Simulation training reinforces positive decision making through training in a realistic, risk-free environment.
WebFOCUS Business Intelligence Dashboard
Dashboard is a system designed to place back office data in one screen that enables fleet managers to manage their drivers with the facts. Driver activity, company statistics, and operational statistics can be found in one convenient location with this tool, which is fed data real time.
Computerized Employee Orientation (CEO)
Our Computerized Employee Orientation allows drivers to fill out all necessary orientation forms on laptops in our training building. Traditional paperwork that typically takes hours to finish, can be completed in 1-2 hours. CEO also eliminates the need to re-write the same information repeatedly on various forms because the technology recognizes those fields and populates them appropriately. CEO enables employees to sign into the system and work at their own pace, viewing training videos and completing all required tests. This technology also helps us with our environmental commitment, as it is a virtually paperless system.
